New book “Contemporary African Social and Political Philosophy”  [20/08/18]

Albert Kasanda, Contemporary African Social and Political Philosophy: Trends, Debates and Challenges. Routledge, 2018.

The book explores what constitutes contemporary African social and political philosophy with regard to its meaning, aims, sources, and relevance for today’s Africa. Kasanda defines contemporary African social and political philosophy as an inclusive reflection of African communities with regard to power and equitable modes of social and political organization. The book sheds new light on debates concerning topics such as ethnophilosophy, negritude, pan-Africanism, democracy, African civil society, African cultures, and globalization.

African solutions and the will of the people coincide in the Gambia  [16/02/17]

Even as the dust is beginning to settle in the Gambia, it is not lost on Africans and people of good will that the manner in which ECOWAS resolved the standoff following recent elections there remains a great example of applying African solutions to African problems. ECOWAS took a principled position that the will of the Gambian people had to be respected by all the means necessary and acted with such steely but decorous resolve it restored order, peace and democracy to the West African nation without a drop of blood. Being able to do so with a good dose of African etiquette and without the usual dictates and bombs of vested foreign powers is a credit worthy of record and celebration.More

Morocco Returns Home  [05/02/17]

In 2016, at the African Union summit in Rwanda, Morocco formally expressed its wish to re-join the union after a 32-year absence. Morocco left the then Organisation of African Unity in 1984, over a disagreement on the independence of Western Sahara.

Therefore, for a continent waiting in expectation for one of its family members to return after more than three decades of absence, it was a great relief and celebration as Morocco took its rightful place at the 2017 AU summit held recently in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.More

Taking ‘forward ever’ to another level, Ghana has done it again, Ayekoo!  [08/01/17]

On December 7th, 2016 Ghanaians pulled off yet another peaceful election almost on the blind side of the world as many remained fixated on the thunderbolt of the American election before it and the embarrassing confusion in the Gambian election next door. The 8th quadrennial affair in Ghana passed off without hiccups as if the exercise of this democratic principle of changing their leaders through the ballot box has always been indigenous.More

(Press Release) First-ever "African Leadership and Excellence Award" presented to Ghana’s President John Mahama  [01/11/16]

Boundaries and borders barricading African countries into sovereign states as in present day Africa is no doubt a legacy borne out of colonialism and neo-colonialism. Many Africans believe that unrestricted movement of people and goods is a catalyst for accelerated progress and development of the continent. Thus, free movement in Africa for Africans has become a burning desire in the heart of good thinking Africans, especially pan-Africanists, who have made this great issue their mission and vision.More

WANTED: Free movement in Africa for Africans!  [04/10/16]

Though African borders are artificial creations of European colonisers, and the Europeans who created the African borders have themselves, on paper, “removed” their borders, making it easier for their citizens to move freely on the European continent, the Africans have stuck so rigidly to the artificial borders that 56 years after African independence, it is easier for non-Africans to move more freely in Africa than Africans themselves. It is a difficult conundrum that borders on self-hatred by the African. As it stands, everybody else can move more freely in Africa than the African. It doesn’t make sense but that is the reality. As more African voices are rising for a change, as African leaders meet at their mid-year Summit in Rwanda in July, a Zimbabwean pan-Africanist is starting a signature petition campaign next month to force the issue. Our Contributing Editor Baffour Ankomah reports.More

Library acquisition trip to Lagos and Ibadan  [18/07/16]

"You like reading eh?" the Nigerian security officer asked me, with a mixture of irritation, amusement, and with a whiff of real interest. For the better part of an hour, I had thrown sand in the cogs of her security machinery, blocking the check-in and luggage-sealing queues in front of the KLM counter at the Murtala Muhammad Airport.More
