- African Information Centre
- 31/01/09 15:00
Programme:
1) Film screening
White King, Red Rubber, Black Death
Peter Bate, Belgium, 2003
84 min. (language: Dutch, English, French with English subtitles)
"The story of King Leopold II of Belgium's brutal colonisation of central Africa, turning it into a vast rubber-harvesting labour camp in which millions died. What the Belgians did in the Congo was forgotten for over 50 years. It's a shocking, astonishing story. In a way, it's a horrifying prelude in European history to the Holocaust." (Nick Fraser, BBC)
2) Discussion after the film: Is there any future for DR
Congo?
Humanitas Afrika has invited members of the Congolese community in Prague, Dieudonne Mubenzem, Jacque Moliba-Bankanza, to give their perspective on how they see the future of their own country. The working language of the discussion will be Czech.
3) Cultural evening:
Congolese music and food.
