Exclusive and rare documentary focuses on the early stages of Ghana’s development shortly before and after the independence, in particular the Akosombo Dam project. Originally conceived by the British colonial government, its realization was taken up by the father of Africa’s independence Kwame Nkrumah who eventually found support and financing for the construction of the hydroelectric dam in the US under interesting circumstances from the Eisenhauer’s government. The documentary brings a unique historical footage from the newly independent African country which later became trapped in the politics of the cold war. It also captured Nkrumah’s 1960 speech at the UN about the crisis in Congo.
The event is to celebrate 50 years of African independence and to mark the climax of the nine-month celebration of Nkrumah’s centenary.
