Invitation and Program Outline for Africa Day 2014 Celebration in The Czech Republic

Humanitas Afrika, Kafé Afrika and Anděl Music Club in collaboration with the UN Information Centre in Prague, UNICEF Czech Republic and the support of African embassies in Prague are cordially inviting you to a series of conferences, cultural and sporting activities for the celebration of AFRICA DAY 2014 IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC.  These events are scheduled to take place from  20 to 24 May 2014, in Prague and Hradec Králové. The celebration is to honour the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (now African Union) on 25 May 1963 and to encourage and promote African unity and friendship. In the Czech Republic,Humanitas Afrika initiated the first official celebration of Africa Day in 2002.

The general theme of this year’s celebration in the Czech Republic is “Africa, a Continent of Cultural Richness, Progress and New Opportunities“.  There will be lectures on 20 May at Hradec Králové University and on 22 May at the UN Information Centre in Prague.  Speakers among others would include prof. PhDr. Luboš Kropáček, Csc. and Dr Alemayehu Kumsa Ph.D., both from Charles University, African ambassadors accredited to Prague and Ms Pavla Gomba, Executive Director of UNICEF Czech Republic.

On 23 May evening (19:30) Africa Dinner Night is taking place at Kafé Afrika, Prague 1 Vojtesska 9, with a variety of delicious dishes from about five  African countries in a buffet with South African wine and Moroccan sweets to taste.  Come and try Moroccan tajine presented by the Moroccan Embassy in Prague.

On Saturday 24 May at 10:00 a friendly football game between a selected team from the Czech media and a team of Africans living in Prague will take place at Strahov (Field 2, Vaníčkova 7). In the afternoon, the focus will be on children and their parents during a Children Afternoon in Kafé Afrika with a variety of activities for children that will include drumming, art work shop and painting jointly presented by UNICEF Czech Republic and Humanitas Afrika. Children that would be present are going to receive a gift of sweets from the Moroccan Embassy.

In the evening of Saturday 24 May from 20:00 at Andel Music Club ( Stefanikova 7, Prague 5)  African Music and Culture Night will be the concluding event marking the Africa Day celebration 2014 in the Czech Republic.  Live performances by three groups: Zyriab,Njachas and Prince Alfredo and the Wariors and a demonstration of dance by some African students in Prague are parts of the program.  The Afterparty would see a selection of African hot rhythm and dance music from DJs Ross the Boss (CZ) and Jason The Shark (Zambia).
