Lingala for beginners

Lingala is one of the main languages spoken in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Congo-Kinshasa) and the Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville). It has more than 10 million speakers and it is also spoken in parts of Angola and Central African Republic. Famous Congolese stars like Pépé Kallé, Koffi Olomide have also made it popular through music in other African countries, so you can hear it in the streets of Lagos, Lomé or Nairobi.

The next meeting of the book club where we discuss interesting titles and hot issues, is about to take place. The theme for our next discussion is "Radically new thinking of the way to fight global poverty?"
The book discussed: Poor Economics: A Radical Rethinking of the Way to Fight Global Poverty (2011), Authors: Abhijit Banerjee a Esther Duflo
The discussion is usually in English and the club meeting is open to anybody who is interested in the topic.

An informal meeting of the readers, library members and sympathizers! There is no need to read anything before coming as this summer meeting should only encourage you to engage in an informal discussion about what you are focusing on right now. A film about piracy in Somalia will also be screened. Everyone is welcome!
Holiday season at AIC

African Information Centre and the library will be closed in the usual opening hours from 1 July to 19 August due to the holiday season in Czech Republic. It is now 50 years since the first democratically elected Prime Minister of then Congo-Kinshasa was assassinated, which is by many Africans and non-Africans considered as an act against progressive leadership and development in Afrika. 30 June is also the 51st independence anniversary of now Democractic Republic of Congo.
