The author gathered selections from over a century of Marxist writings on the theory, strategy and tactics of revolutionary warfare. In the first part, it includes comment by Marx and Engels on the revolutions in Europe, Lenin’s essays which deal with the Revolution of 1905 in Russia, including an article on guerilla warfare never before published in that country. These selections have been made with a view to presenting the theoretical contest in which Marxism has traditionally placed guerrilla warfare and other forms of armed struggle. The rest of the volume deals largely with the period opened by World War II, but also includes essays on the inter-war years in Europe and Asia. The author was himself a participant in the Huk guerrilla force in the Philipines and has written extensively on the subject.
