Všichni jsem již slyšeli o islámském fundamentalismu v Somálsku a jeho propojení s “mainstreamovou” politikou. Anebo s businessem. Anebo s zahraniční pomocí. Některé z odpovědí, které najdeme v této knize, jsou spíše znepokojující. Je to kniha o Somálsku a jeho nekončící krizi, o jeho přechodné vládě a spojenectví válečných lordů, kteří se navzájem drží za hrdla, ale nemohou se uškrtit. Ti, kteří na to doplácejí, jsou bohužel civilisti. Autor této knihy se přímo zúčastnil vyjednávání v somálském konfliktu jako “zúčastněný pozorovatel”.

We have all heard about Islamic fundamentalism in Somalia and its links with what could be called “mainstream politics”. Or with business. Or with foreign aid. Some of the answers are here and they are rather disquieting. It is a book about Somalia itself, about its unending crisis, about a transitional government and an alliance of warlords who are at each other´s throats but cannot manage to throttle each other. The once who get tragically squeezed are the civilians. This book is an insider´s view since the author has been in the position of a “Participant observer” in the Somali conflict.
