Autoři se velmi podrobně zabývají první dekádou politické nezávislosti (1966-79), první etapou vojenské diktatury (1966-79), dále obdobím civilní vlády (1979-83), návratem vojenské diktatury a zavedením strukturálních reforem (1983-92) a dynamikou všeobecné národní kultury, která poskytla platformu pro rozvoj autonomního politického prostoru a rozvoj občanské společnosti.

This volume provides the most historic and contemporary account of the traumas, dialects and dznamics of Nigeria's diwstinctive political economy. The authors provide in great detail an account of the first half decade of political independence (1966-79) the first era of militarz dictatorship (1966-1979), the civilian interregnum (1979-1983), the return of the military and the imposition of structural adjustment (1983-1992) and the dynamics of popular culture that provided the platform for the expansion of autonomnous political spaces and the expansion of civil society.
